To help law enforcement solve criminal cases, please call 911 or the local number of (605) 783-3232 as soon as possible in a safe location if a crime is being committed in Hamlin County, South Dakota.  If this is an emergency, always use 911. You may also submit a tip anonymous online by clicking on this link.

 

Please do not use email, fax or call an employee's personal phone to report a crime that is occurring.  You may contact the sheriff's office 24 hours a day to report an incident or use the online anonymous reporting.  Thank you.

Sheriff Chad Schlotterbeck

Sheriff Chad Schlotterbeck has over 24 years in law enforcement service with the Castlewood Police Department, Estelline Police Department and the Hamlin County Sheriff's Office.  Prior to his law enforcement career, he spent four years in the United State Air Force and two years with the South Dakota Air National Guard.  Sheriff Schlotterbeck has a B.A. in Psychology and a Master's Degree in Science Management.  January 2013, Sheriff Schlotterbeck was appointed to sheriff and has been working diligently to make sure Hamlin County Sheriff's Office is always ready to respond.  Inside the agency, Sheriff Schlotterbeck provide administrative support, oversees the department, works on annual budget, works on executions of judgements and distress warrants, answers calls of service, conducts safety talks and so much more.  Sheriff Schlotterbeck is an active member of the South Dakota Peace Officers, the Fraternal Order of Police and South Dakota Sheriff's Association.

Sheriff Chad Schlotterbeck

Chief Deputy Tayt Alexander

Chief Deputy Tayt Alexander has over 13 years in law enforcement all within the Hamlin County Sheriff's Office.  Before joining the department, Tayt received his Associates Degree in Law Enforcement Technology at Western Dakota Technical Institute in Rapid City, South Dakota.  In high school, he was an active member of the Brookings Police Department Explorer Program and received two region awards in 2003.  During the fall of 2005, Tayt was hired by department, completed the South Dakota Law Enforcement Training and in the fall of 2013 become chief deputy with the agency. Chief Deputy Alexander has a passion to work within the schools and in the summer of 2016 he became a D.A.R.E. instructor and won one award during training.  Working on the department's federal and state grants, supervises over the deputies, performs administrative and civil process duties, investigates criminal activity and answers calls of service by citizens are some of the duties Chief Deputy Alexander provides. Outside the agency, Chief Deputy Alexander is a member of the South Dakota Peace Officers.

Deputy Tristan Molitor

Deputy Tristan Molitor had joined the Hamlin County Sheriff during the first part of 2013 and returned back to the agency in the spring of 2018.

Deputy Darrion Poppen

Deputy Darrion Poppen was hired during in the late spring of 2017 and has been working hard to serve the citizens of Hamlin County.  He was born in Jamestown, North Dakota and went to high school in Groton, South Dakota.  After high school, Deputy Poppen attended Lake Area Technical Institute in Watertown, South Dakota where he obtained his degree in Associate of Applied Science Degree in Law Enforcement and became a certified Law Enforcement Officer in 2016.  During his off time, Deputy Poppen enjoys hunting and boxing.
