Register of Deeds

The Hamlin County Register of Deeds office maintains full and true computerized, filmed and scanned records of deeds, mortgages and other instruments authorized by law to be recorded. Filings consist of UCC's, fictitious names, plats, county indigent lien, federal tax liens, state tax liens, and other miscellaneous documents. Many of these files can be obtained by calling or visiting the county Register of Deeds.

 

The Register of Deeds staff members cannot help you complete documents or forms, and is unable to give legal advice of any type. If you have any questions about completing forms or how to properly transfer property, please consult with an attorney.

Certified Records and License

  • Birth Certificates $15.00

  • Death Certificates $15.00

  • Marriage Records $15.00

  • Marriage Licenses $40.00*.

* Marriage Licenses can be applied for up to 20 days prior to getting married. Individuals under the age of 18 will need a parent or guardian to sign the application. For more information about marriage requirements in South Dakota, please visit the Department of Vital Records.

Hamlin County Procedures for E-Recording

 

  1. Electronic recordings will be received between the hours of 8:00 am to 3:00 pm Central Time.  E-packages may be submitted at any time; however, they will not be recorded outside of posted hours.

  2. Payment of recording fees must be made via ACH by the Delivery Agent (e-recording vendor), the county will not accept payments for recording fees and /or transfer tax directly from the e-recording submitter customer.

  3. Only Electronic Models 2 and 3 will be accepted (visit pria.us for additional information.)

  4. Documents must be original and scanned in black and white with a minimum of 300 dpi.

  5. Electronic documents must adhere to all South Dakota Statutes.

  6. No more than one satisfaction/assignment may be listed on the document.

  7. Images must be sent in TIFF or PDF.

  8. Documents will be rejected if not legible.

  9. Hamlin County's electronic recording providers are Simplifile and Corporation Service Company (CSC).

  10. Hamlin County Register of Deeds, by communicating the request to Delivery Agent, reserves the right to terminate the right for submitter customers to continue to e-record in Hamlin County.

  11. There are no additional fees charged by this county for e-recording; however, a submission fee will be charged by the submitter vendor.

  12. All recordable documents will be accepted electronically by the Hamlin County Register of Deeds with the exception of plats and filed documents.
